Greek Keftedes Meatballs
Ingredients
  • 4 slices white bread, torn into pieces
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 teaspoons dried mint
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground lamb
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour for dredging
  • vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1
Combine the bread pieces and milk in a large bowl, letting it sit for a moment before setting it aside temporarily.
2
Next, use a food processor to finely chop the garlic, then proceed to add the onion, mint, salt, and pepper into the processor. Process until the onion is finely minced.
3
Add the chopped onion mixture to the bowl containing the bread, along with the beef, lamb, and eggs. Mix everything together using your hands until it is thoroughly combined.
4
Form the mixture into balls, approximately 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter.
5
Transfer the flour into a shallow dish, and then roll each ball of mixture in it to coat evenly. Remove any excess flour by gently shaking the ball, and place the meatballs on a plate or baking sheet. Use your fingers to press them down slightly, preventing them from rolling away due to their shape.
6
Heat 1 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs, 8 or 10 at a time, and cook until they are nicely browned on the outside and no longer pink in the center, taking around 10 minutes to achieve this.
7
Transfer the cooked meatballs to a plate lined with paper towels. Repeat the process for any remaining meatballs.
