Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 onion, finely diced
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup instant rice
- 2 teaspoons white sugar
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 6 slices American cheese

Preheat your oven to a medium-high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).

In a large, deep pan, combine ground beef and sliced onions. Heat over high heat until the meat is uniformly browned, then remove any excess oil that may have accumulated.

Add diced tomatoes, a can of condensed soup, cooked white rice, granulated sugar, minced garlic, dried thyme, and dried oregano to the pan. Stir everything together thoroughly and cook over low-medium heat for 10 minutes.

Transfer the mixture to a 9x13-inch rectangular baking dish and top it with slices of cheese.
