Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons margarine, melted
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, take a moment to lubricate a cast iron skillet with some grease. This will prevent the bread from sticking and make it easier to remove afterwards.
3
In a separate, medium-sized bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and sugar.
4
Then, take a handful of raisins and coat them evenly with the flour mixture. This will ensure they're properly seasoned.
5
Make a small indentation in the center of the flour mixture and add the egg, buttermilk, and melted margarine.
6
Mix everything together until all of the dry ingredients are fully incorporated into the wet mixture.
7
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and give it a few quick, gentle kneads to even out the texture.
8
Be as delicate as possible when handling the dough, as excessive manipulation can lead to a tough final product.
9
Pat the dough into a flat circle and carefully place it into the prepared skillet.
10
Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the edges are a beautiful golden brown.
