Grandma's Pork Chops with Mushroom Sauce
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 clove garlic, pressed
  • 6 pork chops
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (8 ounce) can mushrooms, drained
  • 1 cup dry sherry
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (the equivalent temperature of 175 degrees Celsius). This initial step is crucial in preparing the oven for cooking.
2
Melt butter into a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until the aroma is released, signaling that the garlic is fragrant.
3
Season pork chops with salt and pepper to taste. Then, quickly sear them in the skillet on both sides until they are lightly browned, approximately 3 minutes per side.
4
Transfer the pork chops to a suitable baking pan or Dutch oven for further cooking.
5
Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet, utilizing any remaining pork drippings and garlic from the previous step. Stir in sherry and beef broth, scraping up any stubborn bits of pork that are stuck to the pan.
6
Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then pour it over the pork chops in the baking pan. Cover the dish with a lid or aluminum foil to trap heat.
7
Bake the pork chops in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. After this initial baking period, remove the lid or foil and continue to bake for an additional 15 minutes.
8
Remove the pork chops from the pan to a serving platter. Place the baking pan back on the stovetop over medium heat.
9
Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. When the juices in the pan come to a boil, slowly add the cornstarch mixture and cook until it thickens, approximately 2 minutes.
10
Spoon the sauce over the pork chops and serve immediately.
