Grandma's Cast Iron Apple Pie
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 5 Granny Smith apples -- peeled, cored, quartered, and thinly sliced
  • 3 (9 inch) refrigerated prerolled pie crusts
  • 1 cup white sugar, divided
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small chunks
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Melt the butter in a 9-inch cast iron skillet by placing it inside the preheated oven until the butter is completely melted. Take out the skillet and sprinkle brown sugar over it; then put it back in the oven to warm up while you prepare the apples.
3
Remove the skillet from the oven and place a pie crust on top of the brown sugar mixture. Cover the pie crust with half of the sliced apples and sprinkle white sugar and cinnamon over them. Place another pie crust on top, followed by the remaining apples, more white sugar, and a pinch of cinnamon. Top it all off with the third pie crust, sprinkling some sugar on top and dotting it with a small amount of butter. Make four small cuts in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
4
Put your pie in the preheated oven and bake until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown, taking about 45 minutes. Serve your pie warm.
