Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup corn oil
- 1 cup raisins
Instructions
1
Firstly, preheat your oven to the optimal temperature of 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). To prevent any sticking, lightly coat a baking sheet with oil or cover it with parchment paper.
2
Then, combine the dry ingredients such as flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Whisk these ingredients together until they are well incorporated.
3
In another separate container, whisk the wet ingredients which include eggs, buttermilk, and corn oil until they are smooth.
4
Create a central depression in the dry mixture by pushing it towards the edges, then gently pour the wet ingredients into this depression. Add raisins to the mixture and mix just until everything comes together in a cohesive, soft dough.
5
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and use your hands to shape it into a rounded ball. Place the dough on the prepared baking sheet, making sure it is centered.
6
Using a sharp knife, cut a large cross into the top of the dough. This will allow air to circulate and promote even baking.
7
Finally, place the bread on a middle rack of the preheated oven and bake until it is golden brown, taking approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
