Ingredients
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup golden syrup
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the recommended temperature for this recipe. Next, take an 8-inch square cake pan and give it a generous coating of grease to prevent the cake from sticking.
2
Now, fill a separate container with cold water and have it nearby.
3
In a large saucepan, combine sugar and golden syrup, and place the pan over medium heat on your stovetop. Gradually increase the heat until it reaches a boil. Continue to cook for 10-15 minutes, or until a small amount of the syrup mixture dropped into the cold water turns hard and brittle.
4
Once it reaches this consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat source. Carefully add a small amount of baking soda to the mixture, stirring rapidly as it starts to foam and bubble. Continue stirring until the foaming subsides and the mixture turns a golden color.
5
Pour the prepared cake mixture into your greased 8-inch square cake pan. Allow it to cool and set for approximately 15 minutes, at which point you can break the cake into bite-sized pieces to serve.
