Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup milk
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup applesauce
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a medium-high heat setting of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Next, lightly coat a 9x5-inch loaf pan with a thin layer of cooking spray or dust it with a small amount of flour, or line the pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
3
Sift all dry ingredients - including flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg - together in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
4
Place the sifted dry ingredients aside for now.
5
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together milk, brown sugar, molasses, oil, applesauce, and eggs until they are fully incorporated.
6
Mix the wet ingredients together until you achieve a smooth consistency.
7
Gradually stir the combined wet and dry ingredients into each other until just combined.
8
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
9
Bake the loaf in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean, approximately 1 hour.
10
Remove the baked loaf from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack, about 15 minutes.
11
Once cooled, wrap the loaf tightly in plastic wrap and store it at room temperature, or consider freezing for later use.
