German Meat Dumplings
Ingredients
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 8 ounces extra lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 quart oil for deep frying
Instructions
1
Combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, and seasonings in a medium-sized bowl. Thoroughly mix the ingredients until they are evenly combined.
2
Set the mixture aside for later use.
3
In a large, clean bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and additional seasonings. Gradually pour in the eggs and milk, stirring until everything is well incorporated using a sturdy spoon.
4
Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each portion into balls, approximately 2 inches in diameter. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to create circles that are 1/4 inch thick.
5
Form the ground beef into small, golf ball-sized portions and place each one onto half of a dough circle. Fold the other half of the dough over to enclose the filling, and press the edges together using a flat surface or your fingers.
6
Heat the oil in a deep frying device to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C), or over medium-high heat in a large, deep skillet. Fry the dough pockets until they are golden brown on both sides, flipping them once during the cooking process. It should take around 10 minutes in total for each batch of dough pockets.
