Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 3 large eggs
- 3/8 cup 2% milk
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Emmentaler cheese
- 1 onion, sliced
Instructions
1
Collect all necessary components.
2
Combine the dry ingredients - flour, nutmeg, salt, and pepper - in a single container. Whisk eggs in a separate bowl of moderate size. Intermix the milk and dry ingredients mixture until it reaches a uniform consistency. Allow the mixture to rest for 30 minutes.
3
Prepare a large container of water with a moderate amount of salt. Bring the water to a rolling boil. Use a spaetzle press to pour the batter into the boiling water in an alternating motion.
4
Once the spaetzle has risen to the surface, carefully transfer it to a separate container using a slotted spoon.
5
Combine 1 cup of the cheese with the spaetzle in the new container.
6
Melt butter in a large skillet over a medium-high heat setting. Add an onion and cook until it reaches a golden color. Stir in the spaetzle and remaining 1/2 cup of cheese until well combined. Remove from heat, and serve immediately.
