- 1 (10 pound) prime rib roast
- 10 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme

Gather and prepare all necessary components for the marinade mixture.

Combine minced garlic with olive oil, salt, pepper, and dried thyme in a small bowl to create a uniform blend.

Position the roast in a suitable roasting dish with the portion containing fat facing upwards. Evenly distribute the marinade mixture over the top surface of the roast; allow it to come to a comfortable temperature, ideally within 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to its highest setting of 500 degrees F (260 degrees C).

Roast the meat in the preheated oven for an initial 30 minutes; subsequently decrease the temperature to a moderate level of 325 degrees F (165 degrees C), and continue cooking for an additional 60 to 75 minutes. The roast should reach a medium-rare internal temperature of 135 degrees F (57 degrees C).

Post-cooking, permit the roast to rest for a period of 10 or 15 minutes before slicing; this allows the meat to maintain its natural juices.
