- freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 French baguette, cut into 1/2-inch thick slices
- 1 tablespoon high-quality balsamic vinegar, or to taste

Combine the ingredients of your choice, including 3 tablespoons of olive oil, a handful of fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced red onion, minced garlic, a splash of red wine vinegar, and a pinch of pepper in a bowl; allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before refrigerating it for an additional 45 minutes, where it will meld together beautifully

Prepare your oven by positioning the rack approximately 6 inches away from the heat source and then preheat the broiler to its highest temperature.

Take a moment to brush one side of your Baguette slices with the remaining 3 tablespoons of olive oil, then carefully place them oiled-side-up onto a baking sheet.

Place the Baguette slices under the broiler and cook until they are golden brown, approximately 2 minutes
