Fried Cabbage with Bacon and Mushrooms
Ingredients
  • 1 pound bacon
  • 1 large head cabbage, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Start by placing the bacon strips in a substantial skillet and heat it over an elevated temperature, flipping the bacon occasionally until it is uniformly browned, approximately 10 minutes.

Transfer the cooked bacon slices to a paper towel-lined surface and break them apart once they have cooled down.

Remove all but 3 tablespoons of the bacon's rendered fat from the skillet.

Proceed to sauté the cabbage, onion, and mushrooms in the remaining bacon fat until they are tender and lightly caramelized, around 20 minutes.
