Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- 6 (1-inch thick) slices French bread
- 5 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon brandy-based orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier®)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1
Heat butter in a compact cooking vessel over moderate heat until it starts to melt. Combine brown sugar and corn syrup; stir vigorously until the sugar is fully incorporated. Pour into a 9x13-inch rectangular baking container.
2
Separate bread crusts and arrange them in the baking dish in a uniform layer. Mix eggs, half-and-half, vanilla extract, brandy, and salt together in a bowl using a whisk. Pour the mixture over the bread. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 8 hours, or overnight.
3
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). In the meantime, take the baking dish out of the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature.
4
Place the covered baking dish in the preheated oven, uncovered, until it is puffed and lightly browned, taking approximately 35 to 40 minutes.
