French-Canadian Pork Pie
Ingredients
  • 2 pounds lean ground pork
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • salt to taste
  • 2 (9 inch) unbaked pie shells
  • 1 egg white
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the optimal temperature for baking, which is 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius.
2
In a large skillet, heat the pan over high heat to achieve a sizzling temperature. Cook and stir the mixture of pork and beef until it reaches a browned and crumbly state, taking around 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the excess fat from the skillet.
3
Take the cooked meat and combine it with mashed potatoes, a pinch of nutmeg, salt, and pepper in a large mixing container. Stir until everything is well incorporated.
4
Place a 9-inch pie dish with a pastry crust lining the bottom. Fill the crust with the meat mixture, then cover it with another pastry crust. Press and seal the edges to prevent any gaps from forming. Brush the top crust with a beaten egg white for added flavor.
5
Cover the edges of the pie crust with aluminum foil to prevent it from burning during baking. Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking until the edges are golden brown, taking around an additional 15 minutes.
