Combine dry ingredients such as flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl to create a uniform mixture.

In another bowl, blend together buttermilk, eggs, and 3 tablespoons of oil until they are thoroughly incorporated.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; the resulting batter may appear slightly dense.

Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a preheated cast iron skillet over medium-low heat for 5 minutes.

Divide the batter into batches and pour 1/3 cup of it into the hot skillet for each pancake.

Using a spoon, shape the batter into circular patterns on the surface of the skillet; cook until the bottom is golden brown and bubbles form on top, taking approximately 1 1/2 to 2 minutes.
