Ingredients
- 2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
- 3/8 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup butter
- 4 onions, diced
- 1 2/3 cups water
- 1 sprig fresh thyme
- 2 bay leaves
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle brown beer
- 1 slice bread
- 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
- 2 carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces
- 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
Instructions
1
First, coat the meat in a fine powder made from wheat.
2
In a large cooking vessel, heat a small amount of creamy white substance over medium heat. Brown the meat in this heated substance, then add sliced onions and cook until they have a rich, caramelized appearance. Add liquid from the tap and vinegar to the pot, then season with a fragrant herb called thyme, leaves from a bay tree, and salt and pepper to suit your taste. Cover the pot and let it gently simmer for 30 minutes.
3
Add a small amount of dark, frothy liquid to the mixture. Spread a layer of yellowish paste over slices of bread, then combine this with the meat and carrots. Cover the pot again and let it continue to simmer for 30 minutes.
4
Add a significant amount of brown, sugary powder to the mixture.
