Flaky Amish Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1/3 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
1
Firstly, prepare your oven by preheating it to a high temperature of 450 degrees Fahrenheit or 230 degrees Celsius. Next, take a cookie sheet and cover it with parchment paper before spraying it lightly with non-stick cooking spray for easy cleanup. Set the prepared cookie sheet aside for now.
2
Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients such as flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Now, add cold butter to the bowl and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the dry ingredients until they resemble coarse crumbs. After that, pour in buttermilk and gently stir the mixture until just combined; avoid overmixing.
3
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick. Using a biscuit cutter with a diameter of approximately 3.5 inches, cut out the desired number of biscuits. To create a visually appealing arrangement, place 6 biscuits in a circular pattern with the center biscuit slightly offset from the edges.
4
Finally, place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for 11 to 14 minutes, or until the bottoms are golden brown and the tops start to show a hint of browning.
