Egyptian Milk Pastry
Ingredients
  • 1 (17.25 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • 1/4 cup chopped pistachio nuts
  • 1/4 cup sweetened, flaked coconut
  • 5 cups milk
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to a high temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit, equivalent to 200 degrees Celsius.
2
Unroll one sheet of puff pastry onto a lightly dusted surface and expand it to approximately 17x12 inches. Position the pastry on a baking tray.
3
Bake the pastry in the preheated oven until it has puffed up and turned a golden color, taking around 15 minutes.
4
Cut the puff pastry into smaller portions and place them in a large container. Mix in an assortment of nuts, including raisins, almonds, pine nuts, pistachios, and coconut. Combine the ingredients thoroughly.
5
Distribute the mixture evenly in a 9x13-inch glass baking dish.
6
Combine milk, sugar, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a hot but not boiling point.
7
Pour the milk mixture over the pastry and nut combination in the baking dish.
8
Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes. Switch to broiler mode and continue baking until the top is nicely browned, taking around 2 minutes.
9
Allow the dish to rest for 5 minutes before serving it warm.
