Easy Polish Cabbage Rolls
Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground chicken
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cloves garlic, pressed
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 pinch dried marjoram
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the optimal temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, take a moment to prepare your baking dish by coating it with a non-stick layer of grease.
3
In a separate cooking vessel, combine rice and water in a saucepan, bringing the mixture to a rolling boil over high heat.
4
Then, adjust the heat to a lower setting and cover the saucepan, allowing the rice to cook slowly until it reaches a tender state and all liquid has been absorbed.
5
Allow the cooked rice to cool down slightly before moving on to the next step.
6
Simultaneously, fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil.
7
Remove the central core from the cabbage, then gently place the leaves into the boiling water, allowing them to soften.
8
To remove any outer layers that begin to soften, set the leaves aside for later use.
9
In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and cook the onion until it becomes soft and translucent.
10
Mix cooked onion with ground chicken, cooked rice, eggs, garlic, salt, pepper, and marjoram in a bowl.
11
Next, place some of the meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf.
12
Roll the leaves over the filling and tuck in any ends to secure them, using a toothpick if necessary.
13
Place the cabbage rolls into your prepared baking dish and cover them with tomato sauce.
14
Bake, covered, in the preheated oven until the meat within the rolls reaches a safe internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit or 70 degrees Celsius.
