Easy Mardi Gras Cake
Ingredients
  • 3 (14 ounce) cans refrigerated sweet roll dough
  • 2 (12 fluid ounce) cans creamy vanilla ready-to-spread frosting
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 drops green food coloring
  • 2 drops yellow food coloring
  • 1 drop red food coloring
  • 1 drop blue food coloring
  • 1/2 cup multi-colored sprinkles
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Prepare a baking sheet by applying a thin layer of grease to it.
3
Unroll the dough from each can, and extend it into a long, continuous strand.
4
Fold the dough in half lengthwise, and then gently roll it to form a plump log.
5
Combine multiple logs together on the prepared baking sheet, shaping them into a circular pattern by overlapping the ends and pinching them firmly in place.
6
Adjust the dough as needed to achieve an even size all around, ensuring uniformity.
7
Cover the baking sheet loosely with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven.
8
Allow the cake to bake until it is firm to the touch and has a golden brown color, taking approximately 50-60 minutes.
9
Regularly check the cake's doneness to avoid overbaking, and remove it from the oven when done.
10
Once the cake has cooled completely on a wire rack, place it on a serving plate.
11
Carefully cut a narrow slit along the inside of the cake ring, then insert a small plastic baby into the cake, positioning it deeply enough to be concealed from view.
12
Divide the frosting evenly among four bowls.
13
Add 1 tablespoon of milk to each bowl, stirring it in thoroughly to thin the frosting.
14
Use one bowl's frosting to drizzle a design over the cooled cake.
15
In three of the remaining bowls, add yellow food coloring to one bowl and green food coloring to another.
16
Combine red and blue food colorings in a third bowl, stirring them into the frosting to create purple.
17
Drizzle the cake with the colored frostings in any desired pattern, using all four colors to create a visually appealing design.
18
Dust the cake with multi-colored sprinkles, and decorate it using beads, additional plastic babies, curly ribbon, and other festive trinkets.
