Dutch Meatball Stew
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground meatloaf mix (beef, pork veal)
  • 4 slices white bread
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (14 ounce) can beef broth
  • 1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
Instructions
1
Combine the ground meat mixture in a large container; incorporate crushed bread into the mixture and blend using your hands until everything is well incorporated.
2
Add milk and egg to the meat mixture, blending them in thoroughly.
3
Next, incorporate the finely chopped onion, ground nutmeg, dried cloves, salt, and black pepper into the meat mixture until everything is perfectly combined.
4
Now, shape the mixture into six uniform spheres.
5
Heat butter in a large Dutch oven over an elevated heat setting. Cook and stir the meatballs constantly in hot butter until they are evenly browned on all sides, taking anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.
6
Subsequently, add water, canned tomatoes, beef broth, and onion soup mix to the Dutch oven; bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then decrease the heat to a low simmering setting and let it cook until the meatballs are tender and cooked through, approximately one hour.
