Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon almond extract
- 2 tablespoons thinly sliced almonds
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Next, take a moment to prepare your baking vessels by lightly coating the inside of two 8-inch round cake pans with a thin layer of cooking fat.
3
In a small bowl, take the time to thoroughly whisk together eggs until they become smooth and well combined. Set aside about 1 tablespoon of the egg mixture for later use in brushing over the dough.
4
In another bowl, take a moment to combine flour and baking powder until they become evenly mixed.
5
Using an electric mixer, take the time to beat together sugar and butter in a large bowl until they reach a light and fluffy consistency.
6
Mix in the beaten eggs, followed by the addition of almond extract to give your cake a unique flavor.
7
Using a sturdy spoon, take the time to manually stir in the flour mixture until it becomes well combined with the other ingredients. The dough will likely become stiff at this point.
8
Press half of the dough into each prepared cake pan.
9
Take a moment to press almond slices into the dough in each pan, followed by a light brushing of the reserved egg mixture over the top.
10
Place the cake pans in the preheated oven and bake until the top is golden brown, approximately 30 minutes.
11
Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool before cutting into wedges to serve.
