Delicious Apple Crostata
Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup chilled unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons ice water, or more if needed
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 6 small Gala apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
Instructions
1
Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl using an electric mixer until they are well blended. Gradually incorporate butter into the mixture until it forms a rough, uneven texture. Add ice water in small increments while the mixer is running, stirring until the dough just comes together in a cohesive mass. To check the consistency of the dough, pinch off a small portion and observe its texture; if it feels crumbly, add a little more ice water in tiny amounts.
2
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes, allowing it to firm up slightly.
3
Preheat the oven to a high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
4
Rub half of the lemon's juice over apple slices to prevent browning.
5
Place a large sheet of parchment paper on a flat surface. Roll out the chilled dough into a round shape, approximately 12 to 16 inches in diameter and 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Arrange apple slices in two layers on the dough, leaving a border of 1 1/2 to 2 inches around the edges. Fold up the border, creating pleats as you go, and leave most of the apples exposed.
6
In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples. Squeeze the remaining half of the lemon's juice over the apples. Finally, sprinkle 2 teaspoons sugar over the dough crust. Transfer the parchment paper to a baking sheet.
7
Bake the pastry in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
