Ingredients
- 3 cups milk
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 6 ounces German sweet chocolate
- 2 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
- 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut
Instructions
1
Heat milk, sugar, chocolate, flour, and salt in a saucepan over low heat; cook until the chocolate has fully incorporated into the mixture, stirring occasionally. Combine the hot chocolate mixture with beaten eggs and stir until well combined, then gradually add it to the saucepan.
2
Increase heat to medium; continue cooking and stirring until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and pour into a bowl.
3
Cover the bowl; refrigerate until chilled, allowing it to sit for at least 2 hours. Stir in heavy cream and vanilla extract.
4
Transfer the chilled mixture to an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a "soft-serve" consistency.
5
Add pecans and coconut to the mixture; pour into a one- or two-quart lidded plastic container. Cover the surface with plastic wrap and seal.
6
For optimal results, allow the ice cream to ripen in the freezer for at least 2 hours or overnight.
