Daddy's Crispy Shrimp Toast
Ingredients
  • 1 pound fresh shrimp, peeled, deveined and finely minced
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion, minced
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped water chestnuts
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup cooked crabmeat
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 5 drops soy sauce
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
  • 2 cups oil for frying
  • 8 thick slices white bread
Instructions
1
Collect all necessary components for the dish.
2
Combine shrimp, onion, water chestnuts, celery, and green onion in a mixing container. Blend the ingredients together until they are well incorporated. Add crabmeat, egg, parsley, sesame oil, garlic, soy sauce, salt, and pepper to the mixture. Stir until everything is fully combined.
3
Prepare the dipping sauce by blending soy sauce, parsley, water, sesame oil, sugar, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Whisk the ingredients together until they are smooth.
4
Prepare the toast by heating 1/2 inch of oil in a large, heavy skillet over medium heat.
5
Apply a generous amount of shrimp paste to each slice of bread. Press the paste firmly onto the bread so it adheres.
6
Fry the bread in batches, with the paste side facing down, until it is golden brown and the shrimp is pink, approximately 2 to 3 minutes. Flip the bread carefully and cook until it is golden brown on both sides, about 1 minute.
7
Drain the fried bread slices on paper towels and serve.
