Daddy's Classic Shepherd's Pie
Ingredients
  • 5 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed golden mushroom soup
  • 3 teaspoons butter
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius, if you prefer metric).
2
Next, fill a large pot with water that's sufficient to cover the potatoes. Bring the water to a rolling boil, then cook the potatoes until they're tender and soft, taking around 8-10 minutes. Once done, drain the excess water and mash the potatoes.
3
Simultaneously, cook the beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Use your hands or a spoon to crumble the beef into small pieces, stirring occasionally until it's evenly browned. Remove any excess grease from the skillet and stir in a can of condensed soup until it's fully incorporated.
4
Transfer the beef mixture to an 8-inch square baking dish and top it with a layer of cheese. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the surface, making sure to cover the entire area. Dot the top of the dish with small pieces of butter.
5
Finally, place the baking dish in your preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
