Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (105 degrees F (40 degrees C))
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 2 3/4 cups quick-mixing flour (such as Wondra®), or more as needed
Instructions
1
Gather all the necessary ingredients before starting to prepare your dish.
2
Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Allow it to rest for about 10 minutes, allowing the yeast to activate and start fermenting.
3
Add an egg and kosher salt to the bowl, then gradually incorporate 2 ¾ cups of flour. Continue stirring with a wooden spoon until the mixture starts to detach from the sides of the bowl and forms a cohesive dough.
4
Proceed with kneading the dough on a lightly floured surface until it becomes smooth and slightly elastic, taking around 3 minutes to achieve.
5
Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl and gently coat the top with oil. Cover it with a lid or plastic wrap, then place it in a warm spot to rise until it has doubled in size, approximately 2 hours.
6
Remove the dough from its bowl and press out any excess air before shaping it into a relatively uniform ball.
7
Divide the dough into two equal pieces and form each piece into a uniform sphere. Roll out each ball into a cylindrical shape, approximately 2 to 2 ½ inches wide.
8
Cover the dough with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 20 to 25 minutes, allowing it to relax.
9
Simultaneously, bring a large pot of salted water to a steady simmer.
10
Carefully lift the risen dough piece and transfer it to the simmering water. Return it to a simmer, then cover tightly and let cook for 10 minutes.
11
Uncover the pot, flip the dough over, and continue to simmer for another 10 minutes.
12
Transfer the cooked dough to a plate and use a toothpick or wooden skewer to poke holes all over, releasing the steam from the center.
13
Use a piece of string or thread to cut the dough into 3/4- to 1-inch dumplings. Transfer them to a serving plate.
14
Repeat steps 9 to 11 for the remaining dough, ensuring all dumplings are cooked and ready to serve.
15
Serve your delicious dumplings and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
