Ingredients
- 8 slices stale bread
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup dried currants
- 1 3/4 cups milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
Instructions
1
Begin by preheating your oven to a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or equivalently, 175 degrees Celsius). This will ensure that your oven is at the ideal heat level for baking.
2
Next, take a 9-inch round pie dish or cake pan and give it a light coating of grease. This will prevent the bread from sticking to the dish during baking.
3
Take a loaf of bread and butter both sides generously. Cut the bread into triangles, making sure they are all roughly the same size. Arrange a single layer of these buttered bread triangles in the bottom of your prepared pie dish or cake pan, allowing them to slightly overlap one another.
4
Now, sprinkle half of the sugar you have on hand over the layer of bread in the pan. You'll also need to add half a cup of currants on top of this sugar layer.
5
Add the remaining bread triangles on top of the first layer, followed by a sprinkle of the remaining sugar.
6
In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, and a pinch of nutmeg until well combined. Pour this mixture over the bread layer in the pan, making sure to press it down firmly with a spatula. This will help compress the pudding and allow the bread to absorb the milk mixture more evenly.
7
Finally, place your prepared pan in the preheated oven and bake until it is golden brown and set, taking around 30 to 40 minutes to achieve the desired result.
