Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 1/2 cups pearl barley
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 1/4 cup raisins
Instructions
1
Heat the butter in a substantial cooking vessel over an elevated heat setting, around 4 on a scale of 1 to 10. Introduce the onion and barley into the pan, stirring constantly until the onion starts to lose its rigidity, approximately 5 minutes.
2
Add a blend of spices including allspice, turmeric, curry powder, salt, and black pepper to the mixture. Introduce chicken broth into the pan, causing it to reach a gentle boiling state.
3
Cover the cooking vessel with its lid and lower the heat to a minimal setting; allow it to cook until the barley becomes tender, typically ranging from 30 to 40 minutes.
4
Gently separate the pilaf with a fork and incorporate almonds and raisins into it.
