- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- salt and ground black pepper to taste

Heat the balsamic vinegar in a compact saucepan over an intermediate heat setting. Continue to cook until it has decreased to 1/4 cup, approximately 8 minutes. Take the saucepan off the heat source and permit it to cool down until it reaches a comfortable temperature.

During this time, create a visually appealing arrangement of tomatoes, cucumber slices, mozzarella cheese pieces, and basil leaves on a small serving tray. Continue layering ingredients until the entire platter is covered. Anoint with olive oil and sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
