Next, in a separate bowl of moderate size, mix together cornmeal, salt, and pepper to create a uniform blend. This will serve as the coating for the okra.

In a larger skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, take the okra and coat it evenly with the cornmeal mixture.
