Ingredients
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
- 7 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 3 cups oil for frying
Instructions
1
Combine lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl for about 5 minutes, allowing the yeast to soften and form tiny bubbles.
2
In a separate large bowl, blend flour and salt together using a sifting motion to create a uniform mixture.
3
Gradually pour the yeast-infused water mixture over the flour-salt blend and continue to mix until a smooth, elastic dough forms, taking about 5 to 7 minutes.
4
Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the dough rise, doubling in size over time, approximately 45 minutes later.
5
Take a portion of the dough roughly the size of a tennis ball and shape it into a smooth, rounded form. Flatten this ball of dough until it reaches the size of a palm, then set it aside on a lightly floured surface for later use. Repeat this process with the remaining dough.
6
Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for frying purposes.
7
Fry the dough pieces in hot oil, 2 to 3 at a time, until they achieve a golden brown color on both sides, taking about 3 minutes per side.
