Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 pounds paneer, cut into cubes
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 onions, roughly chopped
- 2 green bell peppers, cut into strips
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon ground fennel seed
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- salt to taste
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
1
Preheat your cooking surface by heating 3 tablespoons of oil in a large, deep pan over medium heat.
2
Fry the paneer cubes in the hot oil until they turn golden brown, taking around 7 to 10 minutes.
3
Transfer the paneer to a plate lined with paper towels, reserving the oil in the pan for later use.
4
Add an additional 1 tablespoon of oil to the pan and sauté the onions, bell peppers, ginger, and garlic in it until they are nicely browned, approximately 5 minutes.
5
Add a pinch of garam masala, turmeric, and fennel to the mixture and cook for about 30 seconds, allowing the flavors to meld together.
6
Stir in the tomatoes, ketchup, and salt into the mixture; continue cooking until the tomatoes are tender and the oil separates from the sauce, taking around 10-15 minutes.
7
Pour in some water into the pan and stir it in gently.
8
Return the paneer to the pan; increase the heat to high and cook until the gravy thickens, about 10 minutes.
9
Finally, garnish your dish with some fresh cilantro leaves before serving.
