  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 2 cups oil for frying, or as needed
  • 1 (16 ounce) package mozzarella cheese sticks

Collect all necessary ingredients beforehand.

Combine water and eggs in a small bowl, whisking them together until well incorporated. In another medium-sized bowl, mix bread crumbs and garlic salt together thoroughly.

In a third bowl, blend flour and cornstarch until they form a smooth mixture.

Heat the oil in a large, heavy saucepan to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C).

Take one mozzarella stick and coat it evenly with flour, shaking off any excess. Dip the coated mozzarella stick into the egg mixture, making sure to coat it fully. Lift the stick up so that any excess egg drips back into the bowl, and then press it firmly into a layer of bread crumbs to coat. Place the breaded mozzarella stick on a plate or wire rack, repeating this process with the remaining mozzarella sticks.

Using a spider spoon or a pair of tongs, carefully lower 3 to 4 mozzarella sticks into the hot oil. Fry until they turn golden brown, approximately 30 seconds. Remove from heat and drain the fried mozzarella sticks on paper towels. Repeat this process to fry the remaining mozzarella sticks.
