Crispy Ham and Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
  • 6 slices white bread
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 12 slices thinly sliced deli ham
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Apply a thin layer of butter to one side of each bread slice, making sure it's evenly distributed.

For three slices, apply a thin layer of Dijon mustard on top of the butter, followed by four slices of thinly sliced ham. For the remaining three slices, apply a layer of mayonnaise on top of the butter and place two slices of Swiss cheese on top. Gently press the ham and cheese sides together.

In a shallow dish, combine flour, baking powder, salt, eggs, and water in a bowl, stirring until well combined. Set the mixture aside.

In a large skillet with a flat bottom, melt the remaining butter and heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Dip both sides of each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating them evenly, and then fry in the oil and butter until golden brown on both sides.
