- 16 slices 1/8-inch thick green tomato slices

Preheat the deep-fryer to a high temperature of 360 degrees Fahrenheit (or 182 degrees Celsius, if your thermometer is in Celsius).

Mix together the flour, corn flakes, baking powder, salt, pepper, and sugar in a shallow dish to create a coating for the tomatoes. In another shallow dish, pour milk.

Dip each tomato slice into the flour mixture, gently pressing it onto both sides to coat evenly. Shake off any excess before dipping into the milk, then press again in the flour mixture to ensure a thick coating. Continue this process with all the tomato slices, placing them on a plate in a single layer as you go - avoid stacking them.

Fry the breaded tomato slices in the hot oil until they turn golden brown, taking about 3 minutes per side. Remove them from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined surface to drain excess moisture and cool down.
