Ingredients
- 24 (1 ounce) sticks string cheese
- 5 eggs, beaten
- 3 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs
- 1 quart vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
Instructions
1
First, carefully remove the string cheese sticks from their plastic wrappings and cut them in half crosswise to make uniform pieces.
2
Next, prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and in another large shallow dish, place bread crumbs.
3
Then, dip the cheese stick halves into the egg mixture and roll them in the bread crumbs to coat evenly. Place the coated cheese sticks onto the prepared baking sheet.
4
Allow the cheese sticks to sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes, allowing the coating to set. Repeat this process by dipping them in egg and then rolling in bread crumbs again, creating a thick layer.
5
After that, place the coated cheese sticks in the freezer for at least 2 hours to firm up.
6
Now, heat a significant amount of oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
7
Carefully add the frozen breaded cheese sticks to the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry them until the coating is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is soft, taking anywhere from 5 to 8 minutes.
8
Once done, remove the fried cheese sticks from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. Serve them warm, slightly cooled.
