Crispy Egg Roll Bowl
Ingredients
  • 6 (3.5 inch square) wonton wrappers
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 3 1/2 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1 cup julienned carrot
  • 1/4 cup julienned red bell pepper
  • 1/3 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sake
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Take wonton wrappers and cut them into thin strips, approximately 1/4 inch in width. Place the cut wonton wrappers on a baking pan and lightly coat them with oil. Spread out evenly to prevent overlapping.
3
Take the wonton strips out of the oven and let them cool completely before setting them aside. This will help preserve their crunchiness.
4
In a separate bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, grated carrot, sliced bell pepper, chopped green onions, and minced garlic. Set this mixture aside for later use.
5
In another bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sake, sesame oil, sugar, grated ginger, cayenne pepper, black pepper, ketchup, and cornstarch to create the sauce. Reserve this mixture for later use.
6
Take a large skillet and heat it over medium-high heat. Add the pork to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking up the meat into small crumbles as it cooks. This should take around 5 to 7 minutes.
7
Add the vegetable mixture from step three to the skillet with the pork. Stir everything together and cook until the vegetables start to soften, about 2 minutes.
8
Mix in the sauce from step four and stir everything together. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until the sauce has coated all the ingredients evenly and the vegetables are cooked to your desired level of doneness. This should take an additional 1 to 2 minutes.
9
Serve the dish in a bowl, topping it with crispy wonton strips that you prepared earlier.
