Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
- 2 (16 ounce) packages beef frankfurters
- 16 wooden skewers
Instructions
1
Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and pepper in a medium-sized bowl; mix until well combined.
2
Next, add milk and egg to the mixture in the bowl; stir until a smooth batter forms.
3
In a separate container, heat oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for deep-frying.
4
While the oil is heating up, gently pat dry frankfurters with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
5
Insert a skewer into each frankfurter, making sure it's securely in place.
6
Dip the frankfurters into the batter, coating them evenly and thoroughly.
7
Fry 2 or 3 corn dogs at a time in the preheated oil until they are lightly browned and crispy, taking about 3 minutes.
8
Remove the corn dogs from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
