SERVINGS

Ingredients
- 1 serving cooking spray
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder, or more as needed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 cup chocolate-hazelnut spread (such as Nutella®)
Instructions
1
First, preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Next, prepare the baking surface by spraying a jelly roll or rimmed sheet pan with cooking spray and covering it with parchment paper.
2
Now, let's make the cake. In a medium-sized bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda and sift them together.
3
In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat eggs and sugar until the mixture has tripled in volume, approximately 5 minutes. Add vanilla to the mix and blend well.
4
Gradually incorporate the flour mixture into the egg mixture on low speed in thirds, alternating with melted butter until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and make sure it's not too thick, ideally less than 1/4 inch.
5
Place the cake in a preheated oven and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, usually 8 to 9 minutes. Allow it to cool completely.
6
Once the cake is cooled, carefully remove it from the pan onto a new sheet of parchment paper. Gently lift off the used parchment paper from the top of the cake.
7
Roll the cake into a tube shape, starting at one end, until it's completely rolled up in the parchment paper. Refrigerate for 2 hours.
8
Meanwhile, prepare the filling by whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla together in a bowl with an electric mixer until medium peaks form. Mix in chocolate-hazelnut spread until well combined.
9
Unroll the cake and spread it evenly with the filling. Roll up the cake with the filling, taking care not to crack or tear it easily. If desired, dust the top of the cake with cocoa powder.
