Ingredients
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1 (4 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 3 cups vegetable oil
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup milk
Instructions
1
To prepare this dish, start by whisking together 1/2 cup of milk and a single egg in a medium-sized bowl.
2
Next, combine the flour, garlic salt, paprika, pepper, and poultry seasoning in a resealable plastic bag.
3
Place the chicken inside the bag, seal it tightly, and then shake the bag vigorously to coat the chicken evenly.
4
After coating the chicken, dip it into the milk and egg mixture again, followed by another coating in the flour mixture. Set aside any excess flour mixture.
5
In a large skillet, heat oil to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C). Once hot, carefully place the coated chicken into the skillet and brown it on all sides.
6
Reduce the heat to a medium-low setting, then continue cooking the chicken until it's tender and cooked through, approximately 30 minutes.
7
Remove the chicken from the skillet and drain excess oil on paper towels. Discard all but 2 tablespoons of the frying oil.
8
Over low heat, stir in 2 tablespoons of the reserved flour mixture and continue stirring constantly for about 2 minutes.
9
Next, whisk in chicken stock, scraping the browned bits off the bottom of the skillet to release their flavors.
10
Stir in 1 cup of milk and bring all the mixture to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly.
11
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes before serving immediately with the chicken.
