Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package extra firm tofu
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 dash hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius.
2
Lightly coat a non-stick baking sheet with a thin layer of oil to prevent the tofu from sticking.
3
Slice the extra-firm tofu into 1/2-inch thick pieces, and gently remove any excess moisture from the tofu.
4
Cut the tofu into 1/2-inch cubes, making sure they are all roughly the same size.
5
In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, ketchup, vinegar, and hot sauce until well combined.
6
Add the sesame seeds, garlic powder, black pepper, and liquid smoke to the bowl, stirring until they are fully incorporated into the sauce.
7
Gently fold the tofu cubes into the marinade, making sure they are all coated evenly.
8
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
9
Arrange the tofu cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, leaving no gaps between them.
10
Bake the tofu in a preheated oven for 15 minutes, flipping it halfway through.
11
Turn the tofu over and continue baking until it reaches a golden brown color, approximately 15 minutes more.
