Ingredients
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons garlic salt
- 8 (5 ounce) bone-in chicken thighs
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, or as needed
- 1 pinch onion salt, or to taste
- 1 pinch garlic salt, or to taste
- ground black pepper to taste
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
Instructions
1
First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 175 degrees Celsius).
2
To prepare the chicken, whisk eggs in a shallow dish and mix cornstarch with garlic salt in another shallow dish.
3
Dip the chicken pieces into the egg mixture, coating them evenly, then roll them in the cornstarch-garlic salt mixture to coat completely.
4
Heat a generous amount of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken until it's browned on all sides, sprinkling with onion salt, garlic salt, and pepper as you go, about 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer the browned chicken to a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
5
For the sauce, combine sugar, vinegar, ketchup, and soy sauce in a bowl. Pour this sweet and tangy mixture over the chicken.
6
Bake the chicken in the preheated oven until it reaches a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit (or 74 degrees Celsius), indicated by the juices running clear and the chicken no longer pink in the center. This should take around 40 to 60 minutes, depending on your oven.
