  • 2 cups pre-cooked white cornmeal (such as P.A.N.®)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil, or as needed

Combine water and salt in a medium-sized bowl; gently blend the two ingredients together until they form a harmonious union.

Gradually incorporate cornmeal into the mixture, working it with your fingers until a cohesive dough emerges.

Divide the dough into eight equal portions; shape each portion into a 2-inch diameter sphere and flatten it slightly to create an arepa patty with a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat; cook arepas in batches until they acquire a golden brown hue, approximately 4 to 5 minutes per side.

Transfer the cooked arepas to a paper towel-lined plate to allow excess oil to drip off until they have cooled sufficiently to be handled.
