Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring it gently with a spatula as it comes to a boil. Continue cooking until the custard reaches a steaming-hot consistency and thickens to coat the back of a spoon, requiring approximately 10 minutes.

At this point, stir in heavy cream and add salt to the mixture. Remove it from heat immediately.

Transfer the custard through a fine mesh strainer to remove any solids and refrigerate it until completely chilled, allowing it to sit for 8 hours or overnight.

Pour the chilled custard into an ice cream maker and follow its manufacturer's instructions to churn it, taking around 20 minutes.

Once the churning process is complete, seal the top of the mixture with plastic wrap and cover it with a lid. Place it in the freezer to firm up, requiring at least 4 hours.
