Ingredients
- butter for greasing
- 1 (6 ounce) package spaghetti
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Next, take a small amount of butter and grease a 10-inch pie plate to prevent the dish from sticking.
3
In a separate pot, bring a substantial amount of water to its boiling point and add a pinch of salt. Cook spaghetti in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired level of tenderness yet still maintains some firmness to the bite, approximately 12 minutes.
4
Drain the spaghetti through a colander and return it to its original pot.
5
Meanwhile, combine Parmesan cheese, beaten eggs, and another small amount of butter in the pot with the spaghetti. Stir until everything is well incorporated.
6
Form the spaghetti mixture into a crust shape in the prepared pie plate and set it aside for now.
7
In a large skillet, heat it up over medium-high heat. Cook and stir the beef, onion, bell pepper, and garlic in the hot skillet until the beef becomes crumbly and browned, taking around 5 to 7 minutes.
8
Drain off any excess fat that may have accumulated and stir in the undrained tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, and oregano. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until everything is heated through.
9
Now, spread a layer of cottage cheese over the spaghetti crust. Then, pour in the beef-tomato mixture.
10
Finally, place your dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes.
11
Sprinkle a layer of mozzarella cheese over the top of your pie and continue baking until the cheese is melted, taking around 5 minutes more.
