  • 6 tablespoons butter, diced and divided

Next, take a moment to prepare your baking dish by applying a thin layer of grease to its surface. This will prevent the dish from sticking during the cooking process.

Now, take approximately one-third of your sliced potatoes and spread them evenly across the bottom of your prepared baking dish. On top of this layer, add a similar amount of sliced onions - about one-third as well.

Following the potato and onion layers, sprinkle a moderate amount of flour over both - roughly 3 tablespoons should do the trick. To add some extra flavor, place 2 tablespoons of butter on top of this flour layer.

To season the entire dish, sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper over the top. Repeat this layering process two more times to achieve the desired potato-onion-flour-butter-salt-pepper sequence.

In a separate saucepan, gently heat milk until it reaches a warm temperature. Once the milk has reached this state, carefully pour enough of it over the final layer of potatoes in your baking dish. The top surface of this liquid should align perfectly with the topmost layer of potatoes.
