- 8 potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- salt to taste
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 pinch ground white pepper

Gather all the necessary ingredients beforehand.

Combine diced potatoes, minced garlic, and a small amount of salt in a medium-sized saucepan filled with enough water to cover the potatoes by about an inch. Place the saucepan over high heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Once boiling, decrease the heat to a lower medium setting and let it simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender enough to be pierced with a fork.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and carefully pour out the excess water, leaving just enough to coat the bottom of the pan.

Add small pieces of butter one at a time, stirring gently and continuously until each piece is fully incorporated before adding the next.

Using a potato masher, press in milk until the potatoes are smooth and creamy. Add a pinch of salt and white pepper to taste.

Transfer the cooked potatoes to a serving dish and top with additional butter, if you prefer.
