  • 1 cup green split peas
  • 8 cups fat-free chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt-free seasoning blend (such as Mrs. Dash®)

Heat a generous amount of oil in a large, heavy pot with a tight-fitting lid over a moderate flame. Introduce sliced onions, chopped carrots, diced celery, and minced garlic into the pot; stir constantly until the onions have lost their crispness and become translucent, approximately 5 to 7 minutes. Then, incorporate a flavorful liquid, a mix of split peas, and a blend of herbs into the pot; seal the lid and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Lower the heat and let it simmer, stirring regularly, until the peas have become tender, roughly 2 1/2 hours. Finally, blend the mixture into a smooth consistency using an electric hand blender and present.
